Recording
Recorded musical material including guitar while applying practical microphone, gain staging and signal-flow techniques developed through audio engineering.
MUSIC PRODUCTION • AUDIO TECHNOLOGY • CREATIVE COMPUTING
A multidisciplinary final university project combining music production with audio technology. The project centred around the production and release of an EP while exploring modular synthesis, signal flow, recording, Max/MSP, audio-reactive systems and electronic audio hardware.
01 — OVERVIEW
My final university project brought together the creative and technical areas developed throughout my Audio Engineering and Sound Production degree.
The central outcome was an EP developed through recording, production, mixing and mastering. Alongside the music, the project explored the technical systems behind audio production, including modular synthesis, patch-bay routing, signal flow, Max/MSP systems and audio electronics.
02 — EP
This video presents the first track from the EP and provides an example of the finished creative output from the project.
Track from the final EP project.
03 — PRODUCTION
The EP required the complete production process, combining creative decisions with the technical workflow required to produce finished music for commercial release.
01
Recorded musical material including guitar while applying practical microphone, gain staging and signal-flow techniques developed through audio engineering.
02
Developed the tracks through arrangement, sound selection, synthesis and production, combining recorded and electronic elements.
03
Balanced and processed the recorded and generated material to create cohesive final mixes.
04
Prepared the completed music for release through final processing, level management and delivery preparation.
05
Prepared and released the completed material to commercial music platforms using appropriate digital delivery standards.
04 — AUDIO SYSTEMS
The project extended beyond producing the final music by exploring how audio signals are generated, routed and processed through hardware systems.
Worked with modular synthesizer systems to explore synthesis, signal generation, modulation and audio routing.
Developed practical understanding of patch-bay routing and how signals move between different parts of an audio production system.
Applied signal-flow principles across recording, synthesis and production workflows to understand how audio moves through interconnected hardware and software.
05 — MAX/MSP
Max/MSP was used to explore programmable approaches to audio, moving beyond conventional DAW workflows into custom audio and interactive systems.
Designed a drum-machine system in Max/MSP, exploring sequencing, audio playback and the construction of a custom software-based musical tool.
Mapped recorded audio to visual systems within Max/MSP, using characteristics of the audio to influence visual behaviour.
Explored the relationship between audio, control data and interactive media through patch-based programming.
06 — AUDIO ELECTRONICS
The technical component also included practical work with electronic audio hardware, connecting software and music production with the physical systems that generate and process audio.
HARDWARE
Worked with modular audio hardware and soldering while developing an understanding of modules, electronic components and printed circuit boards used within audio systems.
07 — PROJECT OUTCOME
The project brought together music production, recording, software, synthesis and electronics rather than treating them as separate disciplines.
Producing the EP provided the creative output, while work with Max/MSP, modular synthesis, routing and electronics developed a deeper understanding of the technology and signal processing systems behind audio production.

09 — PROJECT ARCHIVE
The project also included practical Max/MSP, modular synthesis and electronics work. Additional project material may be added here as the original project archive is organised.
